Japan inspired watch strap using Chocolate brown snake embossed calf leather, Menuki ornament from Japanese Katana sword, Orange stitching, matched with a Golden stainless steel butterfly clasp buckle.
A menuki is actually part of the Japanese katana or Japanese sword. Menuki are small ornaments under the handle of a katana placed on opposite sides of the handle and they come in pairs.
An example where the menuki might be the centrepiece of a katana.
Essentially, the menuki are the decorative metal ornaments the are woven under the tsuka-ito of (handle wrapping) of a katana and were originally made to hide the mekugi pins that secure the tsuka to the tang of the blade. They are normally positioned forward on one side and back on the other. These are your hand positions with the menuki fitting into your palms. On unique tsuka wrappings such as katate-maki (battle wrap) the menuki may be woven into the centre as a decorative ornament.
A menuki tucked under thread weavings which cover the sword’s handle.
These finely crafted metal accessories are typically made of brass or copper, although more ornate ones can be made from silver or even solid gold.
